Sugar-Free Pina Colada FAQs
Is a pina colada keto friendly?
Typical pina coladas are not keto friendly – they are loaded in sugar. In fact, a regular pina colada is one of the highest sugar drinks you can get!
Fortunately, this keto pina colada with coconut milk is keto friendly.
How much sugar and carbs in a skinny pina colada?
This skinny pina colada recipe has just 7.7 grams net carbs and only 4g sugar per glass! Compare that to a traditional pina colada (4.5 oz, which is quite small to begin with!) – those have closer to 32 grams of carbohydrates. And as you can see by the pictures, a serving of this one is a lot more generous, too. 😉
But doesn’t pineapple have sugar?
Yes, it does. And it’s true that technically, pineapple is not on the approved keto fruit list.
However, this recipe only has 1/4 cup pineapple per serving, and uses pineapple extract to provide the rest of the flavor. At 7.7g net carbs per glass, this is not the lowest carb drink you can have, but still a pretty good compromise when you want a fruity summer drink!
If you want to be strict and skip the pineapple, you can do that and adjust the pineapple extract to taste. If you do that, a splash of lemon juice for tang is recommended.
Are there other keto cocktails I can make?
Yes! Other popular ones include this skinny margarita recipe and a sugar-free mojito. Both of these are lower in carbs compared to this skinny pina colada recipe.
Can I use a different sweetener?
Yes, you can. Ideally, you’ll need a powdered sweetener, so that it’s not gritty. For best results, use Powdered Monk Fruit Allulose Blend or Powdered Allulose – these dissolve best.
However, if you look closely, you’ll notice that the pictures actually show our Crystallized Monk Fruit Allulose Blend! We tried it with that and it still turned out great. This is because allulose-based sweeteners dissolve very well, so it works out. But, if you use another granulated sweetener, your drink will be gritty.
Check out this keto sweetener comparison for more information on sweeteners.
Can I use simple syrup?
Yes, but the drink will only be low carb if you use keto simple syrup.
