F.A.Q.s

General Product Questions

Net carbs only include the carbohydrates your body can ready use for energy. This reading on your nutrition label excludes the carbohydrates your body can’t fully digest, including sugar alcohols, fiber, and allulose.

To calculate net carbs, simply take total carbohydrates per serving and subtract fiber, sugar alcohols and allulose.

For example, a teaspoon of Besti erythritol contains 4 total grams of carbohydrates. After subtracting 4 grams of sugar alcohols, the net carb count is 0 grams.

Besti products have a three-year shelf life. Store in a cool, dry location, or even your refrigerator.

Wholesome Yum Flours

Ever tried a gluten-free recipe that turned out gritty, grainy, or just plain ruined? In many cases, poor quality flour may be the culprit.

Wholesome Yum flours are the ideal texture for creating delicious low carb recipes that won’t spike your blood sugar. High-quality ingredients, no nut skins, and an ultra-fine grind ensure that your creations come out perfectly every time.

In addition, purchasing Wholesome Yum flours helps support the free recipes we create on wholesomeyum.com.

Wholesome Yum almond flour comes from California almonds. Wholesome Yum coconut flour comes from organic coconuts grown in the Philippines.

To make almond flour, we blanch almonds in boiling water to remove the skins. Then, we grind and sift them into a super fine flour.

To make coconut flour, we scrape the meat from inside whole coconuts, grate it, and strain to separate the solids from the coconut milk. Then, we dry out the solids in the oven at a low temperature, and finally grind and sift them into a super fine coconut flour.

Our flours contain nothing extra. Wholesome Yum almond flour contains 100% almonds, and our coconut flour contains 100% coconut.

Almond flour and coconut flour are not interchangeable. Since coconut flour absorbs much more moisture, substituting it for almond flour can lead to dry, crumbly results. We recommend using recipes designed for each of these flours rather than substituting them.

For almond flour: You can substitute almond flour for white flour in a 1:1 ratio, for any recipe. However, keep in mind that white flour contains different properties than other flours and you may need to add other ingredients to achieve a similar end result.

For coconut flour: Substitute up to 1/3 coconut flour for every cup of wheat flour. Since it is so absorbent, you may need to add more liquid, sweeteners, or other elements to your recipe to create similar end results. We recommend using recipes designed with coconut flour in mind rather than substituting it.

Thanks to its higher fat content, almond flour is ideal for recipes that need moist, cakey textures.

Use coconut flour to make nut-free, gluten-free recipes with even more fiber! Most people with nut allergies can still enjoy coconut flour.

Each serving of our flours contains 2 net carbs. The serving size is standardized by the FDA for all nut flour products – 2 tablespoons.

All Wholesome Yum Foods flours are gluten-free. Our almond flour is non-GMO, and our coconut flour is USDA certified organic and non-GMO.

Besti Sweeteners

All Besti sweeteners have zero calories, zero net carbs, and zero glycemic index. Here are some notable differences:

  • Our monk fruit sweetener blends measure 1:1 with sugar, while allulose and erythritol are 70% as sweet as sugar.
  • Erythritol sweeteners may cause a mild cooling sensation, while allulose sweeteners will not.
  • Erythritol sweeteners are more appropriate for recipes that need a crisper consistency.
  • Allulose sweeteners dissolve, caramelize, and brown like sugar.
  • Each sweetener we have comes in granulated and powdered versions. Use granulated for baking, and powdered for sauces, frostings, or anywhere you need a smooth consistency.

Read more about the differences with a detailed comparison of sweeteners and a chart here.

Besti ingredients are as follows:

  • Monk Fruit Sweetener With Allulose: Allulose, monk fruit extract
  • Monk Fruit Sweetener With Erythritol: Erythritol, monk fruit extract
  • Allulose Sweetener: Allulose
  • Erythritol Sweetener: Erythritol

Erythritol is a natural sweetener that we can’t metabolize [*], which means it tastes like sugar without spiking our blood sugar. Found in fruits and vegetables, it’s 70% as sweet as sugar.

Erythritol is part of the family of sugar alcohols, which are found in nature, but it is unique compared to others such as sorbitol or maltitol. Erythritol is the only one that has a glycemic index of zero and is easier to digest.

Monk fruit, also known as luo han guo, is a small Asian melon that has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. Monk fruit extract is derived by crushing the fruit, then drying the juice into a concentrated powder that has no calories, carbs or sugar.

Monk fruit extract is extremely sweet, which comes from an antioxidant in the fruit called Mogroside V. It’s very concentrated (between 150 and 400 times as sweet as sugar!), so we combine it with less potent sweeteners to make a 1:1 sugar replacement.

Different brands of monk fruit extract come with different levels of Mogroside V, which affects how sweet they are and whether they have any aftertaste. Our monk fruit extract is the highest grade, with 50% Mogroside V and NO aftertaste.

Allulose is a natural sugar that we can’t metabolize [*], which means it tastes and acts like sugar without spiking our blood sugar. Found in fruit, maple syrup and other plants, it’s 70% as sweet as sugar.

The name “allulose” sounds like glucose, fructose, lactose, and other sugar names, because it’s in the same family. But unlike these sugars, we can’t process allulose.

Besti sweeteners are not artificial sweeteners and not engineered in a lab. They are all sourced from plants.

Besti sweeteners taste like SUGAR! Unlike other popular low glycemic sweeteners, you won’t get an aftertaste here.

Besti doesn’t cut corners — we’ve been rigorous in how we source our ingredients, how they taste, and how they make you feel.

Take our monk fruit extract, for instance.

Besti is also the first brand to offer a monk fruit allulose blend, bringing the same sweetness of sugar to your table without the cooling sensation or tummy trouble that sugar alcohols can cause.

Besti monk fruit sweeteners with erythritol or allulose can be used as a 1:1 sugar replacement.

Allulose and erythritol are 70% as sweet as sugar, so for every cup of sugar you will need 1 1/3 cups of these sweeteners.

For more information on how to substitute sweeteners, see this conversion chart and calculator.

Use granulated Besti to make your baked goods crispy or soft, and crystallized Besti for soft or moist baked goods.

Powdered Besti works best in recipes that require your sweetener to dissolve or have a smooth texture, such as frosting or glazes.

We can’t reveal the proprietary ratio in our monk fruit sweetener blends, but the majority of the sweetness in them comes from monk fruit. We use 50% Mogroside V monk fruit extract, which is the highest grade.

You can see how they stack up against other sweeteners (including sugar) in this sweetener conversion chart.

Yes! Besti is keto friendly, paleo friendly, kosher, gluten free, and vegan!
