FAQs For Coconut Flour
If you’re new to this type of flour, below are the answers to the most common questions about it. Read further down for information on how to bake with coconut flour as well.
Does Coconut Flour Taste Like Coconut?
Yes and no. Coconut flour has a very mild coconut taste, which is noticeable if you taste it right out of the bag. However, you can cook and bake with coconut flour in many different ways, so that extracts or spices in recipes can cover up any coconut flavor, or let it shine, depending on the desired outcome.
If you don’t like coconut flavor, it’s still possible to make baked goods with coconut flour that don’t taste much like coconut at all.
How Is Coconut Flour Made?
We scrape the meat from inside whole coconuts, grate it, and strain to separate the solids from the coconut milk. Then, we dry out the solids in the oven at a low temperature, and finally grind and sift them into a super fine coconut flour.
Is Coconut Flour Keto Friendly? Low Carb?
Yes! Our keto coconut flour has only 2 grams net carbs per serving.
Is Coconut Flour Gluten Free?
Yes! All Wholesome Yum products are grain-free and gluten-free, including this coconut flour.
Is Coconut Flour Good For Diabetics?
Yes, in moderation. Our super fine coconut flour has a glycemic index of 51, which is fairly low but not zero. Compare that to white flour, which has a glycemic index of 85. (If you prefer a zero glycemic index for diabetics, try almond flour instead.)
How To Store Coconut Flour?
Store coconut flour in your pantry, in cool, dark place. You may also freeze it to make it last even longer, if you like.
How Long Does Coconut Flour Last?
Coconut flour will last at least 12 to 18 months, but it may be longer if it’s properly stored, especially if it’s unopened.
How Many Calories In Coconut Flour?
Coconut flour has 60 calories per serving, which is 2 tablespoons.
How Many Carbs In Coconut Flour?
Wholesome Yum Coconut Flour has 2 grams net carbs per serving.

How To Use Keto Coconut Flour
If you’re wondering what to do with coconut flour, we have plenty of ideas! Use Wholesome Yum Organic Coconut Flour for baking bread, pancakes, muffins, cookies, crackers, and more.
Can You Substitute Coconut Flour For All-Purpose Flour?
Yes, but it’s best to use recipes developed for coconut flour. Learning how to bake with coconut flour without a recipe takes some practice, since it absorbs 3-4 times more moisture than white flour would.
Very roughly, you can use 1/3 cup coconut flour to replace 1 cup white flour. However, often times other modifications will be necessary since this can have other consequences, such as changing the sweetener ratio. In addition, coconut flour does not have the starch content or gluten that wheat flour has, so it doesn’t create stretchy doughs or chewy texture on its own. There are other ingredients that can be added to coconut flour recipes to achieve an end result similar to what you’d get with regular flour.
Can You Substitute Coconut Flour For Almond Flour?
Usually not. Similar to the issues with white flour conversion above, converting from almond flour to coconut flour has the same issues. You’d end up with a very dry result if you replace almond flour with the same amount of coconut flour, and while you can convert by replacing 1 cup almond flour with 1/3 cup coconut flour, this often has unintended consequences that require additional recipe changes.
For best results, stick to coconut flour recipes when using this flour.
Can You Fry With Coconut Flour?
Absolutely! Coconut flour works for breading and frying, but you end up with a different consistency to the end result. The fine texture makes it ideal for dredging.
Can Coconut Flour Be Used As A Thickener?
No. Wheat flour thickens due to its starch content, which is not present in coconut flour, so you can’t thicken a sauce or make a roux with it. You’d need a different thickener for this.
What To Make With Coconut Flour
You can make almost any baked good or dessert with organic coconut flour, including bread, pancakes, muffins, cookies, crackers, breading chicken or fish, and more. For sugar-free desserts, replace the sugar with our best-selling Besti monk fruit sweetener.
