FAQs For Super Fine Blanched Almond Flour

If you’re new to almond flour, below are the answers to the most common questions about it. Read further down for information on how to bake with almond flour as well.

What Does Almond Flour Taste Like?

On its own, blanched almond flour has a hint of almond flavor. Its flavor profile is very neutral, so when you use it in cooking and baking, often times it’s undetectable depending on what else is used in the recipe. Sometimes you can still taste the almond in baked sweets, which turns out delicious.

How Is Almond Flour Made?

We blanch almonds in boiling water to remove the skins, then grind and sift them into a super fine almond flour.

Is Almond Meal The Same As Almond Flour?

No, they are not the same. Almond meal is more coarse than blanched super fine almond flour, because almond meal is ground with the skins intact. It’s a small detail that makes a huge difference in baked goods.

Baking with almond meal can result in a grainy or gritty result. Our finely ground almond flour is the optimal quality and grind for baking.

Is Almond Flour Keto Friendly? Low Carb?

Yes! Our keto almond flour has only 2 grams net carbs per serving.

Is Almond Flour Gluten Free?

Yes! All Wholesome Yum products are grain-free and gluten-free, including this almond flour.

Is Almond Flour Good For Diabetics?

Yes, our super fine almond flour has a zero glycemic index! Compare that to white flour, which has a glycemic index of 85.

How To Store Almond Flour?

Store almond flour in your pantry, in cool, dark place. You may also freeze it to make it last even longer, if you like.

How Long Does Almond Flour Last?

Blanched almond flour will last at least 12 months, but it may be longer if it’s properly stored, especially if it’s unopened.

How Many Calories In Almond Flour?

Almond flour has 80 calories per serving, which is 2 tablespoons.

How Many Carbs In Almond Flour?

Wholesome Yum Almond Flour has 2 grams net carbs per serving.

How To Use Keto Almond Flour

If you’re wondering what to do with almond flour, there are many uses for it! Use Wholesome Yum Super Fine Blanched Almond Flour for baking bread, pancakes, muffins, cookies, crackers, breading chicken or fish, and more.

Can You Substitute Almond Flour For All-Purpose Flour?

Yes, definitely! Learning how to bake with almond flour is easy, since it’s roughly a 1:1 replacement for regular flour in most recipes.

This is where the quality and brand you choose can make a big difference. The best almond flour – like our Wholesome Yum brand – will have a super fine grind to get a good texture when baking.

However, sometimes the recipe needs modifications. Almond flour does not have the starch content or gluten that wheat flour has, so it doesn’t create stretchy doughs or chewy texture on its own. There are other ingredients that can be added to almond flour recipes to achieve an end result similar to what you’d get with regular flour.

Can You Substitute Coconut Flour For Almond Flour?

Usually not. Coconut flour absorbs about 3-4 times the amount of moisture that almond flour does, so substituting one for the other would change the recipe drastically.

Even if you reduce the amount by 1/3 or 1/4 to achieve a similar consistency, this would have other side effects, such as different sweetness level. Coconut flour also has a different texture even if you convert the ratio. For best results, stick to recipes developed for each type of flour.

Can You Fry With Almond Flour?

Absolutely! Blanched almond flour is excellent for breading and frying. It doesn’t crisp up quite as much as wheat flour breading does, but is still delicious and works great.

Can Almond Flour Be Used As A Thickener?

No. Wheat flour thickens due to its starch content, which is not present in almond flour, so you can’t thicken a sauce or make a roux with it. You’d need a different thickener for this.

What To Make With Almond Flour

You can make almost any baked recipe or dessert with super fine almond flour, including bread, pancakes, muffins, cookies, crackers, breading chicken or fish, and more. For sugar-free desserts, replace the sugar with our best-selling Besti monk fruit sweetener.

Best Almond Flour ever!

This finely milled, blanched almond flour is lovely in all my baked goods. The chocolate chocolate keto muffins I make with this almond flour are like the "real" thing but better. I use it in fruit crumbles, as a "breading" for chicken cutlets when I don't want to use crushed pork rinds, in bread and cookie recipes. It has the right consistency to give my homemade creations the perfect "crumb" for the perfect taste. I generally freeze a couple of bags of this when I order 3 or more at a time. I can use it directly from the freezer, no need to "thaw". I really do wish the bags were larger than just 1 pound. A two pound or larger bag would be more practical for most of us, I believe. A wonderful product nonetheless!

Not the best flour

I bought it to make banana bread and when I used this flour it happened that it did not compact the bread after baking it so it was like a really bad mix that it was just kind of cooked and looked like a pudding.

After I used the remaining to make crepes and those were ok but in order for it to stick you need to add way too many eggs so the taste is just horrible because the egg overpowered the taste.

I really don’t recommend this flour for baking

Hi Paola,
Sorry to hear that your baked goods didn't turn out as expected. Almond flour is not a 1:1 substitute for white flour, so typically you'd need to use recipes developed with almond flour in mind. I have lots of them here that you can try: https://www.wholesomeyum.com/tag/almond-flour/ Hope this helps!
Warmly, -Maya from Wholesome Yum
P.S. I noticed you gave the product a 5-star rating despite the issues. Maybe this was a mistake? I published it as is, but feel free to adjust. I do hope the almond flour recipes will help you, though.

Love These products!

There are only two kinds of almond flour I will use and Wholesome yum is the top pick...I like the texture the most so final result is not gritty like with some almond flours!

Best. Almond. Flour. EVER!

I am convinced that there is no almond flour that will give you as wonderful results as Wholesome Yum's Super Fine Blanched Almond Flour. I've made the mistake of buying a store brand, and the baked goods, keto donuts, had a bitter aftertaste. They were grainy as well. Using Wholesome Yum's almond flour gives a much lighter and fluffier result, with no grainy, bitter aftertaste. I wish I could find this flour in our local stores, but ordering on-line gets it to me within 2-3 business days. I cannot emphasize enough how critical Wholesome Yum's almond flour is in getting the very best results for keto baking. Love this product! :)

I love this almond flour!! Game changer… I had another brand before and it was like eating sawdust! Gross… This one is the best! I guess the key is blanched and fine.
I had also bought the coconut flour but have not used it just yet. Will continue to use this brand for sure!?

I bought the almond flour for use in cracker recipes, but it is so fine. It works in all almond flour recipes. The quality is outstanding. I can't wait to try it in keto dumplings!

I am so glad to find such high quality products. Almond flour is an essential in my current diet and this has been my go-to product. The texture is very fine and even. I have purchased several times and the product is consistent. Bakes and blends well and makes it possible to eat things I thought would be off limits. So happy with this flour and the wonderful texture and baking properties.
